About Andrea C. McAleenan

Andrea McAleenan’s career spans senior leadership positions in public and private higher education, K-12 and the not-for-profit sector. Her work encompasses academic and student affairs administration, graduate and undergraduate level teaching and advancement (friend and fund raising, major gift work, special events, marketing and communications, alumni relations). Bridge building, networking and partnership development are signature threads throughout her career.
McAleenan began her career in public school counseling serving at-risk student populations in Michigan and Hawaii. Andrea moved to the University of Hawaii where she designed system-wide admissions and articulation strategies for eight campuses. Her public higher education work continued at California State University, Northridge where she designed a university wide orientation and retention model.

Transitioning to private higher education, she co-founded a Masters Degree program in College Student Development serving as professor and department chair, prior to becoming the Dean of Instruction at Azusa Pacific University where she was responsible for accreditation, faculty development, enrollment management, and the Offices of the Registrar, Multiethnic Students, Learning Skills Center, Center for Personal and Career Development and Orientation. As part of a four-year Federal agency partnership, Andrea moved to Communities in Schools based in Washington D.C. to establish integrated approaches for student retention in large urban school districts. Andrea served as Director of Communications and Congressional Liaison prior to establishing and directing the Western Region’s Center for Partnership Development and Training in Los Angeles.

McAleenan joined the administration at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) serving as Assistant Dean for the Executive and part-time MBA programs at the Anderson Graduate School of Management. Identifying partners and coordinating international field study projects enabled her to work with many multinational companies including, NOKIA, SONY, BHP (Australia), AVL (Austria), SGS-THOMSON (France), New Zealand Enterprises, and DISNEY EUROPE. McAleenan founded UCLA’s Global Partners Forum and became Associate Dean for International Relations, collaborating with business and government entities in 26 countries.

Andrea was asked to join the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University as Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer and later was appointed Dean of Executive and Extended Learning. Following that she served as Vice President for Advancement and Chief Development Officer for InterVarsity (Madison, WI) where she designed comprehensive advancement, fund development, alumni and communication strategies for national and international constituencies.

Andrea returned to California as the Special Advisor to the President of Azusa Pacific University. She focused on increasing the University’s visibility and impact on national and international platforms including a creating a Global Think Tank for government, business and academia leaders from 45 countries at Lausanne’s international gathering in Cape Town, South Africa.

Andrea moved to the Central Valley of California where she was on the faculty of the School of Business at Fresno Pacific University teaching Global Management and Leadership in the MBA program. She also served as Director of External Relations and Partnership Development.

Currently she is developing Building Global Bridges, an international consulting business, and recently hosted Central Valley business leaders and national educators on two study trips to Finland. In June, 2019, she was responsible for coordinating the plenary speakers for Lausanne’s Global Workplace Forum for 119 countries in Manila, Philippines. She is currently establishing a network of women leaders throughout the world who are eager to share resources and support in diverse professional contexts. McAleenan is a Lecturer teaching International Management at the Craig School of Business at Fresno State University and a Visiting Professor in International Business at Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University in Bucharest, Romania.

McAleenan serves on the Board of the Urban Leadership Foundation seeking to develop change agents in slum communities in nine global cities and on The Whole Vine, a community board, in the San Joaquin Valley. Throughout her career, McAleenan has partnered in philanthropic endeavors with patrons of music and the arts and other non-profit organizations including World Servants and the Pacific Development Foundation. She holds a BA in Communications (Music & Theater), a joint MA in Student Affairs Administration and Counseling from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Claremont Graduate University.
